If you're ready to learn how to plan a wedding that is both affordable and unforgettable, keep reading for our expert tips and advice. Let's make your big day as special as your love story.

Limit Your Guest List

When it comes to your wedding guest list, it's important to remember that less is sometimes more! While you may feel tempted to invite everyone from your long lost childhood friend to your second cousin twice removed, keep in mind that each additional guest means an additional expense. Instead, consider prioritizing those who are truly important in your lives and who have played a significant role in your journey as a couple. Remember, your wedding day is about celebrating your love and commitment to each other, and keeping the guest list intimate can help create a more romantic and personal atmosphere. So, take a critical eye to your guest list and don't be afraid to make some tough decisions!

Get Creative With Your Wedding Cake

As a photographer who has witnessed many weddings, I know firsthand that wedding cakes can be quite expensive. But fear not, there are other options that can help you save money! Dessert bars are a popular choice among couples who want to offer their guests a variety of sweet treats like pies, cupcakes, and cookies. You can work with a local bakery to create a stunning display that will satisfy everyone's sweet tooth while keeping costs low.

However, if you still have your heart set on a traditional wedding cake, there are ways to make it more budget-friendly. Ask your baker to make the layer you cut into out of real cake, and then use styrofoam for the other layers. Once you and your partner have cut the cake, have the caterer take it to the kitchen and serve sheet cake to your guests. They won't be able to tell the difference, and you'll save a significant amount of money. It's a win-win situation!

Opt for a DJ Instead of a Band

When it comes to entertainment, a live band is great, but don't underestimate the power of a talented DJ. They can keep the party going and are often more affordable. Plus, most DJs will also act as the MC for the reception and even during the ceremony. Ask me about vendor recommendations for DJs — I know the best of the best in the Toledo area.

Pick your Venue Wisely

Choosing the right venue can also help you save big. Look for locations that are naturally beautiful, like botanical gardens or your future in-law's backyard. These types of venues require less decoration, which can save you tons of money. Even local parks and beaches can be great options that won't break the bank.

Marry on a Weekday

If you're willing to be flexible with your wedding date, consider booking on a weekday. I personally married on a Thursday at a national park. It was the most relaxed, non-stressful time due to it being mid week. Most venues offer discounts for non-peak days, which means you can still have a gorgeous wedding while saving some cash.
