Weddings are a once-in-a-lifetime event for couples. With such a big ocassion and so many moving parts, it’s often very expensive. But it doesn’t always have to be that way! Your marriage is about starting your life together and growing your love so starting your marriage off in the red is not ideal.
From the venue to the dress, to the food, costs can get out of hand pretty quickly. If you don’t have a large budget for your big day, you can still plan your dream wedding without taking from your savings or maxing out your credit cards.

Limit Your Guest List
Fewer guests equal fewer expenses! I know it’s tempting to invite everyone you know, but your wallet will thank you for not doing that. With every person you add to the guest list, you are just driving up the overall cost of the day. As you go down the list think of the last time you saw that person, if it’s been over two years, then off the list they go. This rule doesn’t work for all cases but it definitely will help you narrow down the guest list.
Get Creative With Your Wedding Cake
Wedding cakes are pricey! That’s why a lot of couples are opting for dessert bars instead. They pick out different desserts like pies, cupcakes, and cookies, and have a local bakery supply the different options. This can help you save hundreds of dollars. If you’re still looking for the 3-tier elegant wedding cake, ask your baker to make the layer you cut into out of the cake, and then the rest of the layers use styrofoam. Once you and your partner cut into the cake, have the caterer take it to the kitchen and cut up sheet-cake to serve the guests. They won’t know the difference and it’ll save you tons of money.
Opt for a DJ Instead of a Band
Live bands are super fun and always get the guests out of their seats and dancing, but a good DJ can do the same. Plus most DJs will also be there during the ceremony and also MC the reception. Cut costs by skipping out on the live band and using the all-in-1 DJ.
Pick your Venue Wisely
One of the easiest ways to save money while wedding planning is by choosing a venue wisely! For example, if you get married at a botanical garden you won’t need to purchase tons of flowers to decorate the area because it will already be so beautiful. And if you have your ceremony in your future in-law’s gorgeous backyard you won’t have to rent a ceremony venue and the reception venue won’t have to be rented as long. Look into venues at local parks and beaches, most times you just need to reserve the time and purchase a cheap permit.
Marry on a Weekday
Weekdays are considered non-peak days in the wedding industry. Most venues with offer you a discount for booking on a weekday because those days are likely not to get booked regardless. Yes, it might add some inconveniences but if you’re looking to stay within budget, this might be the option for you!
