The paint mines are literally in the middle of nowhere Colorado. You park, walk about 15 minutes through the Colorado golden plain fields and stumble upon a sea of bright, naturally made color bands, oxidized in different layers of clay. I had to look that up, can you tell?
I flew out to Colorado in late April to second shoot a wedding with my friend, Kayla (Kayla Rae Photography) in Vail. I’ve been to Colorado a few times but this was my first time at the Paint Mines, which is just 45 minutes west of Colorado Springs. I tagged along with Kayla during her engagement session with Nolan + Leah, both of whom were the nicest people.
The golden hour showed off its gorgeous western sunset slipping into Pikes Peak and bouncing pink hues into a stormy blue sky.
